Raised between Texas and Mexico, Julio César Cedillo has been an actor for the past 35 years. He prides himself in bringing authentic nuances to his work based on real life cultural experiences. His intense commitment and hard work is showcased in over 70 tv/film productions.
Julio has worked with some of the most renowned actors and directors of our time, from starring as the titular character in the Cannes winning film THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA opposite Tommy Lee Jones to working on Jon Favreau’s Sci-Fi mash up COWBOYS & ALIENS as much needed comic relief alongside Daniel Craig and Sam Rockwell. In SICARIO, the gritty drama directed by Denis Villeneuve, Julio faces off with Benicio Del Toro becoming one of the most memorable scenes of its genre. Other film credits include THE HARDER THEY FALL, a new school western drama directed by Jeymes Samuel and produced by Jay-Z starring Idris Elba and Regina King, where Julio and Jonathan Majors open the film in a gunfight ala spaghetti western style. Most recently, Julio joined the cast of Amazon’s A MILLION MILES AWAY directed by Alejandra Marquez Abella in a lead role opposite Michael Peña. The film is based on the true story of astronaut Jose Hernandez, the first migrant farmworker to travel into space. Julio has also been reunited with the prolific screenwriter, Guillermo Arriaga (Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel) to film A CIELO ABIERTO, earning him an Ariel nomination for Best Supporting Actor from The Mexican Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences (the Oscar’s equivalent). This is the most prestigious recognition in Mexican Cinema. A CIELO ABIERTO landed in the most recognized festivals internationally beginning with The Venice International Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Morelia International Film Festival.
He has four other films worth mentioning, the Netflix film, CHUPA directed by Jonás Cuaron about a mythical creature featuring Julio as Dr. Ortega. The recent Texas film ACCIDENTAL TEXAN, DEADLAND and starring with Josh Lucas in THE BLACK DEMON.
On the television side, Julio was a series regular on Netflix’s worldwide hit show NARCOS MEXICO for two seasons as Guillermo González Calderoni, a complicated man who straddles the fence on both sides of the US-Mexico border eventually taking down ‘Felix Gallardo’ played by Diego Luna. Other tv credits include a regular role as ‘Neto Mendez’, a local cop in the CBS All Access series COYOTE starring Michael Chiklis as well as recurring on USA Network’s QUEEN OF THE SOUTH. Other guest appearances include THE WALKING DEAD, PRISON BREAK, CHICAGO P.D., and the upcoming Season 3 of BOSCH LEGACY.
He is currently working on EL GATO the series based on the comic book series El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez. He is working opposite Diego Boneta and Adriana Barraza. The series is being produced by MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios.
