Julio César Cedillo, an Ariel Award–nominated actor often hailed as one of Mexico’s most dynamic screen performers, has appeared in more than 80 film and television productions. He is best known for his acclaimed role as the the title character in the Cannes Award–winning film THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA, directed by Tommy Lee Jones, The Dallas Morning News praised his work, writing: “Cedillo gives a sensitive, nuanced performance as a lonely northern Mexico vaquero.” He also delivered a gripping turn opposite Benicio Del Toro in SICARIO further cementing his reputation for depth and intensity on screen. One of his most rewarding experiences was working under director Jon Favreu and holding his own opposite Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell and Walton Goggins in the sci-fi western mash up COWBOYS & ALIENS.
He has guest starred in multiple notable tv shows, including PRISON BREAK, THE BRIDGE, THE WALKING DEAD, NCIS:NEW ORLEANS, COYOTE, QUEEN OF THE SOUTH, CHICAGO P.D., BOSCH LEGACY to name a few.
Cedillo gained international recognition with his breakout role as Calderoni in two seasons of Netflix’s global hit NARCOS: MEXICO, and landed him an Imagen Award nomination for his heartfelt performance in Amazon’s inspiring migrant space drama A MILLION MILES AWAY. Additional credits include the stylish western THE HARDER THEY FALL, where he opens the film in a tense standoff with Jonathan Majors, and the award-winning UPON OPEN SKY, for which he received both an Ariel Award nomination and the prestigious Silver Goddess Award for Best Supporting Actor from PECIME (Mexico’s Cinematic Journalists Association). Variety writes: “Cedillo rounds out the film with a devastatingly raw turn, providing a cathartic release to the built-up sorrow that permeates Upon Open Sky.”
